Working with the original bones of a three-level structure, this Mount Hotham chalet has been reimagined into a refined alpine retreat. The design draws on a European chalet sensibility, balancing warmth and intimacy with a disciplined, designer led approach to layout, materiality and detail.

A striking standing seam exterior gives the building a strong, monolithic presence against the alpine landscape, while internally, layered textures and carefully controlled proportions maintain a sense of comfort and enclosure.

 

 The result is a considered, high performance chalet that now stands as one of the most compelling examples of alpine building on the mountain..
